Work Package 4 : Technical Identification Keys

Objectives: To establish morphological criteria for distinguishing larvae and juveniles of four Scylla species and to produce technical key for identification

Broodstock of the Scylla serrata, S. tranquebarica and S. olivacea were identified following Keenan et al. (1998). Using standard larviculture methods, samples of each larval stage and of juveniles were collected and preserved. Detailed taxonomic descriptions are being documented by researchers at University of Wales and SEAFDEC/AQD. Parental females and samples of larvae and juveniles of each species will be preserved and kept in an appropriate museum.
